Well, who didn’t see this coming?  Hillary Clinton has announced her run for President that she supports marriage equality in a video sent to the Human Rights Campaign.

Clinton, who has mostly been living in privacy since her resignation from being Secretary of State, had this to say when talking about her support for LGBT couples to have the right to marry.

LGBT Americans are our colleagues, our teachers, our soldiers, our friends, our loved ones. And they are full and equal citizens and deserve the rights of citizenship. That includes marriage. That’s why I support marriage for lesbian and gay couples.

This should come as no surprise to readers of Pollitics Today given how Bill Clinton came out in support of the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and calling it unconstitutional.  For those who are keeping score at home, Clinton signed the bill into law when he was President.

Good for Clinton for embracing marriage equality but the real purpose seems to be for her to cover her weaknesses in preparation for a 2016 run.  It’ll be difficult for her to be taken seriously as a big champion for LGBT issues though given how New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley both signed marriage equality into state law.

Still, this race is just beginning.
