HIGH TEA AT THE PENINSULA CHICAGO, Chicago, Illinois

By Jaclynsindia @siennacharles

Dolled up in the nicest dresses we brought to Chicago (or in my friend’s case, bought in Chicago the day before), Katie and I strolled into the Lobby, eagerly anticipating a relaxed afternoon of eating delicate sandwiches and pastries. We were led through the Lobby, a grand dining area with 20-ft floor-to-ceiling windows, from which the sunlight streamed through and where we could gaze at the terrace and the buildings across.

The tea selection looked amazing, and after 10 minutes of inquiring about uniquely named teas, we ultimately decided on the Celebration Tea from China and a green tea. They arrived to our table shortly in beautiful teapots with little leaf strainers, accompanied by three tiers of sweet and savory delights. Some of our favorite treats were petite sandwiches of chicken salad with Muscat grapes and smoked salmon with capers and olives, molasses cookies, French macaroons, and of course, freshly baked scones that came in a little basket. As if those weren’t enough, we finished off with a strawberry and cream parfait and a complimentary cup each of the Lapsang Souchong that our server recommended for its distinct smokiness.
