Hart of Dixie 1x13: Sweetie Pies and Sweaty Palms

Original Air Date: 6 February 2012

StorylineZoe decides that it's too soon in her relationship with Judson to go to the annual Sweetie Pie Dance, so instead she makes plans to have a sleepover with Rose, whose parents are going out of town. George misplaces the save the dates for his upcoming wedding which causes major trouble in Lemon paradise. Lemon wants her father to finally move on from her mother leaving him, so she secretly gets him a date for the dance.Best Quote:

Lavon: I couldn't sleep last night. Saw something that upset me.
Zoe: Was it Wade and Joelle making out on his porch again? That woman kisses like she's eating corn.

Review: It's clear these days that the love/hate relationship between Zoe and Wade is what pushes this show forward. Everything else goes back and forth between being funny and great and being way up there in boresville, to quote my favorite southern guy.

In light of Bluebell's own way of celebrating Valentine's Day (brace yourselves, people, cause there's going to be a lot of this crap going around on TV in the following two weeks), Zoe gets caught between her new romance with the "mute Rob Lowe", as Rose calls Judson, and her ongoing bickering war with her gorgeous but wild neighbor, a war that takes a new turn as the Sweetie Pie Dance approaches. The more Zoe wants to make things with the silent vet work out, the more Wade wants to break the two up by inventing funny ways of screwing with them, from stealing Zoe's beauty supplies to locking her up in the house so that she can't get to the dance. Their relationship is a wild ride and I can't wait for the week to pass to see where it goes, especially since the war is not one-sided: Zoe - a typical new yorker who doesn't like to lose - has her own comebacks, which include telling Joelle that she and Wade are actually fuck buddies or sending red roses from Wade to Joelle, with an "I love you" card attached.
Since it's clear that the showrunners don't want to put these two together too soon, I was almost surprised when Wade starting confessing to liking his neighbor. But that lasted only a couple of seconds and the conclusion couldn't have been funnier: he may like Zoe and not want her to date someone else, but winning a bet is more important for someone with the intellect of an eighth grader.
Seeing how this was sort of a Valentine's episode, the relationship between Zoe and Wade was not the only one under the spotlight. Things between Lavon and Didi take an unfortunate turn when her ex husband comes to town trying to win her back, uncovering once more Lavon's pain regarding his affair with Lemon. Sure, his behavior is far from being mature and the whole thing bordered insanity; and frankly, I wouldn't have forgiven him all that quickly were I Didi. Plus, this back and forth when it comes to his feelings for Lemon is getting a bit ridiculous, especially since the woman is on the verge of getting married. But I can't wait to see where the story goes now that Didi made the most awful discovery a woman can make: find a photo of the ex in your current lover's house.
And moving forward to another relationship, I can't end the review without mentioning Lemon and George. I'm still amazed at the fact that he is putting up with her craziness and doesn't start questioning his dedication and willingness to get married until Didi points out that losing the wedding invitations might have been his subconscious telling him things are not OK between him and his fiancee. George is the kind of guy who is capable of doing almost everything in order to keep his word, though when he falls to his impulses, he can easily break someone's heart. He didn't even try to find out what was going on with Lemon before throwing a tantrum that would have made even her be ashamed, and she's the queen of tantrums. On the other hand, Lemon not telling George about her mother, but telling Lavon about her instead clearly proves that she's more about appearances than love when it comes to Alabama's golden boy, and I'm wondering how long it will take before she figures all out.
Other stuff: Rose being one of my favorite characters is no secret and she managed to steal the scene every time she was around; I also like that she's clearly more mature and insightful than Zoe and is able to make her see the mistakes she makes. As for Brick, his obsession with his wife is one of those stories that make me appreciate that men are not completely devoid of feelings and I can't wait to see her return into the Breelands life once more - cause what's the point in having her pop up in conversations every five minutes if she's not going to make an appearance at some point?Hart of Dixie 1x12: Mistress and Misunderstandings Back to Season 1
