Today is a special day for women all over the planet. For exactly 100 years, we have been celebrating the women’s fight and achievements in society. It’s a day for everyone to thank the people before us who made it easier for us, although the struggle is not over yet, and it’s also a day to put our life into perspective and remember what it is to be a woman, and if we can help the world be a better place for everyone.
“Started as a Socialist political event, the holiday blended in the culture of many countries, primarily Eastern Europe, Russia, and the former Soviet bloc. In many regions, the day lost its political flavour, and became simply an occasion for men to express their love for women in a way somewhat similar to a mixture of Mother’s Day and St Valentine’s Day. In other regions, however, the original political and human rights theme designated by the United Nations runs strong, and political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide are brought out and examined in a hopeful manner.” Wikipedia
I advise you to watch this documentary that was made to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day. ‘On Her Shoulders’ follows the history of International Women’s Day and the struggles women have faced. In addition, it looks at what still needs to be achieved to ensure that gender equality can be fully realised.
So Merry International Women’s day my friends!
