Happy Crappy Valentine’s Day

TWO years ago to this day I found myself sat doing the very same thing I did this evening; watching a movie and stuffing my face with fatty greasy carbs that would probably leave me bloated for the next eighteen months. While these are extremely similar scenarios, (almost identical but this year I chose Ristorante instead of Domino’s pizza and Carte Dor instead of Ben and Jerry’s. Classier, I’m sure you’ll agree) there is one big difference aside from the brands of the food I shoved into my open gob; the fact that I was in a relationship in the first picture and am now single currently in the second.

Funnily enough I am also now happier than I was on V Day circa 2012 despite the lack of red roses and boyfriend. It’s strange that, isn’t it?

In Finland the fourteenth of February is known as a sort of international friendships day and the custom is to celebrate the love between platonic relationships, rather than romantic ones. To honour and enjoy the fruits of a lifelong commitment to watch terrible movies and laugh hysterically together. So this year I have decided that in light of recent events, I am going to make like the Finnish do and give love to those ladies and gents who make my sometimes intolerable existence worth it.

2014 has already been just a bit shit for me but instead of staying down in the dumps and snapping the heads off of long-stemmed roses I’m opting for pampering myself and thanking those around for putting up with my crap all this time. Forgive me for seeming like some sad sack sap but I am in love, you see; in love with everybody who makes me not want to turn homicidal. Thanks, folks. You’re the reason I’m not kitted out in a straight jacket or an orange jumpsuit by now!

Happy Valentine’s Day to you all.
