Happier, Improved, New Year – 7 Easy Steps

By 1258miles @1258miles

2012 might have been a great year for you, but there’s no reason why this year couldn’t be even better. These seven steps will help you to make 2013 the ride of your life.

1.   Delete the people who make you sad from your life. Do you have a “friend” who constantly makes you feel bad about something, doesn’t listen to you and pushes you to the ground all the time? You shouldn’t have to keep those kinds of people around you. Luckily, there are more good than bad people out there, now it’s the time to focus on the good ones. Start by having a closer look to your Facebook friend list; if you wouldn’t cross the road to say hello to them, what’s the point in sharing all your personal things with them online?

2.   Take risks. You see someone cute in the café queue? Ask him out! The worst case scenario, he will say no but at least you made his day. Do something you never thought of doing; go scuba diving, rock climbing, snowboarding and take a train nowhere. Enjoy being able to take your life in your own hands and impress yourself. It’s a well-known fact that people mostly regret the things they did not do, not the ones they did.

3.   Keep yourself healthy.  There are many things in life that are out of our control, but keeping yourself as healthy as possible is not one of them. Enjoy the long walks in the park and cycling to a nearby village. Start eating more vegetables, fruits, drink more water and cut the extra fat and sugar. This will save you a great deal of money and stress. Keep an eye on your nutrition already in January and you don’t have to panic about attending as many boot camps as possible 4 weeks before the bikini season. And remember: the cool kids haven’t been smoking in years anymore!

4.   Work where you want to. Going to work shouldn’t be something to be terrified or depressed of.  We work almost half of the time we spend being awake, the best hours of the day. The next time you go to work, evaluate which things you like about your job and which things annoy you. If you can’t name more enjoyable than annoying things, you might want to consider finding another job. You should always feel appreciated and supported by your boss and colleagues, even on Mondays. Avoid the unnecessary stress by learning how to say no and delegate.

5.   Start a new hobby. Learning new things is one of the best ways to make you feel good about yourself. Weather it is a new language, paddling, oil painting or playing an instrument, feeling the development will give you great satisfaction. A little distraction is a brilliant way to keep away the post-Christmas blues and relieve stress. Who knows, maybe you’ll even find the love of your life at the Spanish class!

6.   Be grateful. Start by saying “Thank you” more often. Then cut the moaning, find the good in bad and focus on the things that have been given to you and the ones that you have accomplished on your own. Be grateful that you are there, able to read this post and that you made it to the new year with great people around you.

7.   Draw a mind map. Go back to the year 2012. Which things were left undone, which things were successful and which things went wrong. This will give you an idea what works well for you and which areas you need to work on in order to make the year 2013 the year of your life.
