Hands On: Facebook Lite Android App is Fast, Uses Less Resources

Posted on the 28 January 2015 by Nrjperera @nrjperera

I stopped using Facebook on my Android phone a long time ago, and it actually saved me a lot of internal storage space, RAM and even battery life. As you may know, Facebook app was reported to be one of the apps that uses an excessive amount of system resources on a phone. Facebook found a solution to this problem with the new Facebook Lite app.

Taking less than 1MB to install, Facebook Lite provides all the basic features sufficient to keep its regular users updated on their social life. Unlike its high-end app, Facebook Lite takes very small amount of system resources and runs smoothly even on a low-end smartphone running Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

I took this app for a spin and found it to be quite helpful, specially given the fact that it consumes less data than the original Facebook app. It also performed smoothly on an old phone I had running Android Gingerbread, as well as a feature phone running Jelly Bean.

However, I should advice you not to jump to this app hoping for a high quality experience. Facebook Lite has cut down on a lot of fancy features and the quality of the user interface to make it possible to run on almost any old phone out there. So, it doesn’t look as good as the original app, but it will get the job done.

You can update your status, post pictures, browse your friends list, browse your groups, or even update your managed groups and do so much more with Facebook Lite. The app is convenient, even for the Facebook power users.

For those of you who runs on network based internet plans, even though it lacks the polished look and feel, Facebook Lite is the best way to browse the social network as it will save you a lot of data and memory usage, even while you browse with a 2G network.
