Halloween Recipe: Mummy Sausage Rolls

By Bigcitylittleblog @feakins

When you're English, sausage rolls are a must-have snack at any holiday party. This year, I got infected by the Halloween Spirit, and turned them into little mummies.

I got the idea from Pinterest, where I was seeing countless Jalapeño Popper Mummies, but wanted to do something a little different.

I used the same recipe found here for my mother's infamous sausage rolls, but adapted it slightly.

What You'll Need (makes 1 sheet of bite size rolls)
  • 1 lb of banger meat
  • 1 lb of puff pastry
  • flour for dusting
  • 1 egg
  • green capers
  • pizza cutter or sharp knife
  • rolling pin
  • brush
  • spatula (optional)
  • Baking sheet
  • Chop stick or tooth pick
Step 1:

Preheat the oven to 375F. Then form links of sausage using your hands and set aside. You could also use sausage already in casing, if that's what you have on hand. Next, Instead of rolling out the dough into sheets, use a pizza cutter to create long thing strips.

Step 2:

Randomly wrap the strips around links of sausage meat leaving a small space for the "face" of the mummy. Brush with egg wash and set on a dusted baking sheet. Pop them into the oven at 375F. After 10 minutes, reduce the heat to 325F and continue baking for 30 minutes or until the dough is golden brown.

Step :

Remove from the oven and use the end of a chop stick to create little holes in each face. Place a caper into the holes to create eyes, and voila! Mummy Sausage Rolls for your Halloween Party!
