Halloween Makeup Fail

Before I get started, I wanted to say that this started out being a modern, glam witch look. After I had everything completed, I didn't know what the heck to call it. Now it almost has a zombie kind of vibe to it. Oh well.
I am seeing all of these amazing and elaborate tutorials for Halloween costumes pop up. I wish I were that creative and I also wish I had that kind of time. I am also not that skilled. And I am sure that is the case for most of us. I have had this look in mind and I knew the exact products I wanted to use and I had an idea of how I wanted it to turn out. Well, I am pretty disappointed in how it turned out. This is one of those instances where I like how it looks in person, but for some reason it looks awful in pictures. In fact, my mom got spooked when she saw me, but said it was well done. At least I have that going for me.
I wanted to do something easy and fairly quick to put together. A lot of these Halloween looks have stuff you would have to go hunt down and spend excess money on. I used things I already have, and of course you can different brands and put your own twist on it. In fact, I highly recommend that you do.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I used purple shadows, and they are notorious for being uneven and patchy. I wasn't going to post this, but I figured what the heck? It would be refreshing to see a look that isn't perfect and polished.
I wanted to do this look sooner, but my face freaked on me a little bit and I wanted to wait until my skin calmed down a little bit.
This look came together when I was playing around with my Lorac Mega Pro 3 Palette. I feel like most witch looks focus on black and green. I wanted this one to have a touch of gray and purple instead, and with lots of highlighting and shimmer.
1.) The modern day witch would be all about a glowing complexion. Gone are the days of gross green skin with warts. As a base, I used The Estee Edit's Radiance Activator.
2.) To lighten up my skin a little, I used NYX's Pro Foundation Mixer in White combined with Makeup Forever's Ultra HD Foundation Stick.

3.) To conceal, I used Kat Von D's Lock It Concealer Creme.
4.) Instead of a setting powder, I used a gray eyeshadow because I wanted a gray cast to my skin. I used Mist from the Lorac Mega Pro 3 Palette for this effect.
5.) For my eyeshadow primer, I used M.A.C's Paint Pot in Painterly.
6.) For all of my shadows, I used Lorac's Mega Pro 3.
  • Dusty Mauve as my base color
  • Licorice as the lid shade and along the lower lash line
  • Eggplant in the crease and along the lower lash line
  • Violet Grey to blend out Eggplant

7.) To highlight, I used Glacier from Lorac's Mega Pro 3 on my cheekbones. I also used Deep Fog along the hairline for a little bit of depth.
8.) For my winged eyeliner, I used NYX's Vinyl Liquid Liner and I added some BH Cosmetics Glitter liner in Rapture to the end. I didn't like it, so I covered it back up a little.
9.) To fill in my brows, I used Deep Fog from the Lorac Mega Pro 3 and I also used Glacier.
10.) I originally wanted to do false lashes, but my allergies are awful right now and I had just taken Benadryl. It would have been an awful idea, so I just used L'Oreal's Telescopic Mascara and called it a day.
11.) On my lips, I used Tattoo Junkee's Lip Paint in Grunge. I was just going to use the lip paint, but I eventually applied the chrome powder. It looks pretty awesome. It is the only part of this look that I do like.

I guess it really isn't that bad, but it just isn't what I wanted it to be. One upside is that it gave me the chance to test out some colors from the Lorac Mega Pro 3 that I probably wouldn't have used otherwise. Same goes for this Tattoo Junkee Lip Paint.
There is a lot of trial and error to these more fun, creative looks. I don't know if I will try this one again as it was hard enough for me to find the time to do this one. I do have another Halloween look I want to try, so hopefully that one will turn out better.
Anyways, I hope you have a great weekend!
