Verdict: This is Going to Turn Into A Rant
Story: Halloween II starts with more flashbacks into Michael’s time inside the mental home where he explains the story of his dreams to his mother Deborah (Zombie). We move to right after the first film finished with Laurie (Taylor-Compton) is found and rushed to hospital along with Dr Loomis (McDowell). It becomes clear Michael Myers (Mane) isn’t dead when the escapes from the transport taking him to the morgue.
Michael comes straight back for Laurie leaving bodies a plenty in his path and just as he catches Laurie, its a dream, are you freaking kidding me?
One year later Laurie now lives with her best friend and fellow survivor Annie Brackett (Harris) and her father Sheriff Lee Brackett (Dourif) who is still suffering nightmares from the events. Dr Loomis now has a big book deal telling his story. Michael now without his mask is following his mother’s ghost around preparing for his next attack on Halloween. Who will survive the latest attack by the ruthless Michael Myers?
Halloween II starts for the first five minutes leading the same way a the original but takes a crash course through the rest of the film. The dream sequence idea gets used 4 or 5 times ruining the surprise in it, the opening 20 minutes just gets confusing because we never learn what was real and what was a dream. Next the year later the only character that makes sense is Dr Loomis and his selfish money grabbing after the tragic events. Laurie, Annie treat the Sheriff like a piece of shit and throw away any idea of protection when they nearly got killed. The ghost angel works for me because it brings the idea of Michael needed to kill his family back to where it was going in original franchise. But back to the negative did Zombie even write a script or did he just write fuck for every scene? I can’t quite believe how bad the story is when the base idea should be good. (3/10)
Actor Review
Scout Taylor-Compton: Laurie Strode is the mains target of the first attack and still haunted by the nightmares of Michael. She has moved away from Haddonfield with the Brackett’s trying to restart her life, but once Michael finds her he doesn’t want to stop until he takes her life. Scout doesn’t reach the levels need in the role but it doesn’t help that the character is written so badly. (5/10)
Malcolm McDowell: Dr Samuel Loomis has sold his story of Michael Myers and spends most of the film on a book tour dealing with people who see his actions and the reason for the deaths of their loved ones. Malcolm does a good job in the role and his role at times feels out of place but I like the way his character goes. (7/10)
Sheri Moon Zombie: Deborah Myers is the ghost guiding Michael on his rampage searching for his sister. She is the spiritual side of the legacy of Michael. Sheri doesn’t get much screen time but is clearly only in this to make her have a role with the husband. (2/10)
Tyler Mane: Michael Myers is the killing machine hell bent on killing his whole family so he can bring them all together again, he is deadly than ever before and will not leave stop until his mission is complete. You can’t say anything against Tyler being an on screen presences. (7/10)
Support Cast: Halloween II has a supporting cast that is mostly disposable characters, but the return Annie Brackett really annoyed me because why is she so against her father after what happened? I mean come on she got left in a pool of blood and all her father wants to do is protect her and she gives him shit.
Director Review: Rob Zombie – Rob tries to continue his stamp on the Halloween franchise which I did like first time out but now it has just lost the spark. (3/10)
Horror: Halloween II is filled with blood and gore but that is about all it has going for it. (4/10)
Settings: Halloween II puts the action into a random town when it is meant to be inside one small town. (1/10)
Suggestion: Halloween II is one I have to say avoid, simply because it is just blood, gore, nudity and confusing story telling. (Avoid)
Best Part: Dr Loomis character.
Worst Part: Plot hole heavy.
