Habs Spent Less Time Defending in Game 3 Than They Did in Game 2

By Kicks @Chrisboucher73
This post will focus on how much time each Montreal Canadiens player has spent defending in the defensive-zone. Percentage of events spent defending is calculated by dividing the number of events each player engages-in while attempting to remove puck-possession from the opposition in the defensive-zone, by the total amount of defensive-zone puck-possession events.
A higher-percentage indicates that the player has spent more time defending in the defensive-zone, and less time attempting to move the puck out of the d-zone. The BLACK line represents the players percentage during the season; the BLUE line shows their percentage during game 1 versus the Tampa Bay Lightning, the GREEN line shows their number from game 2, and the BURGUNDY line shows their number from game 2
As a team, the Habs spent more time in the defensive-zone defending against the Lightning during game 2 than they did in either game 1, or game 3. Among defensemen, Mike Weaver spent the least amount of time defending in game 3, while Andrei Markov spent the most time defending.
Markov has spent more time defending in each of the 3 games than he averaged during the season, while Briere spent the most time defending in game 3; with limited minutes. PK Subban has spent less time defending in each of the 3 playoff games than he averaged during the season. Among forwards, the same can only be said for Brandon Prust.

 SEASON VS. PLAYOFFS
This graph represent the same information as the one above, except that the 3 playoff games are combined to show the percentage of defensive-events spent defending in the playoffs.
This does an excellent job of expressing just how dominant PK Subban is at moving the puck out of the defensive-zone. For a defenseman to spend the least amount of time (smallest percentage of events) defending in the defensive-zone, is incredibly impressive. This low defending percentage is a direct result of a jaw-dropping defensive-zone turnover rate of just 19%. Andrei Markov has the highest percentage of defensive-events spent defending. Among forwards, Brandon Prust has spent the least amount of defensive-zone events defending, while David Desharnais, and Michael Bournival have spent the highest percentage of their defensive-events defending.
