HabitRPG Turns Your Life Into a RPG Game to Help Improve Productivity

Posted on the 22 April 2014 by Nrjperera @nrjperera

HabitRPG is a self improvement app that uses gamification to help you get things done. The way I see it, this app is a great way to boost productivity, and the best part is that it lets me have fun while doing those boring things I’ve been postponing. HabitRPG is free to play. You can register and start playing the game of your life right away.

Using features and reward systems of role playing video games, HabitRPG lets you manage your tasks in three different categories, Habits, Dailies and To-Dos. Habits are the things you are trying to get into like going to the gym or reading a book. Dailies are the stuff you need to get done in the same day like finishing a report or clean your apartment. To-Dos are long term tasks, which allows you to set a deadline and work toward it to achieve your goals. You get to add as many tasks you need to these categories and set a difficulty level. Completing each of these tasks gives you a small amount of gold or experience points to help you progress in the game and level up your character. You also get some gold to use in the Rewards section as a way to treat yourself, for example you can add a reward like “1 hour of video games” for 30 gold and hold off playing video games until you complete as many tasks you can to collect that amount of gold to buy that reward. However, if you fail to complete a task within the time period, you will lose your health and eventually die. Basically, it’s quite similar to an actual RPG game.

HabitRPG also has several other features that makes it more interesting like a Tavern to hang out with fellow Habit players, join parties, take on challenges and even buy pets and equipment or upgrade your character at the market. It’s more like a way to take the edge off.

Then again, all this life improvement and management depends on how honest you are with playing the game and how much you want to achieve in your life, because if you cheat, using this app will be pointless. It may sound like a funny idea at first, but it actually works. This is just the push I needed to get things done and I’m already seeing some progress in my life, especially with learning to code, which I hated the most. But, you know what, I actually had fun learning it this time.
