Grammar Friday

By Pjfaur @peterfaur

man_question_markToday’s two grammar tips:

  • Don’t be confused by nouns that look plural but are actually singular. The words news, measles, and mumps are good examples. So, measles is contagious. Mumps is, too. That is bad news if you’ve been exposed to them.
  • Some words ending in ics can be singular or plural. So, politics is an interesting career, but the politics in the presidential campaign were really dirty. Or, statistics is my toughest class, but the statistics of our game were really bad.
