Grammar Friday

By Pjfaur @peterfaur

Grammar FridayToday’s two grammar tips:

  • Don’t use quotation marks in an effort to emphasize a word. Underline or boldface the word instead. Suppose you see a sign that says: “Free” Coffee Today. It makes you think there’s a catch, right? For some hilarious examples, visit The “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks.
  •  I recently saw someone write that a controversy was “much adieu about nothing.” The word he wanted was “ado,” which means fuss, trouble or bother. “Adieu” is a French word for “farewell.”
