The survival and welfare of the critically endangered mountain gorilla of central Africa is an increasingly alarming issue. These magnificent creatures face immense barriers in the fight to survive, due to habitat loss, disease transmission, poaching and most recently a new outbreak of civil war. Rebel fighting has heavily plagued The Democratic Republic of Congo in the last month, seriously threatening the existence of these vulnerable gorilla populations. Reports over the last few days however appear extremely positive, and all members of three gorilla populations have now been accounted for since rangers were redeployed this week.
