Gopinath Munde

Gopinath Pandurang Munde was born on December 12th 1949 in Parali district of Maharashtra to Pandurang Munde and Limbabai Munde. His was a middle class family of farmers.

Gopinath Munde married Late Pramod Mahajan’s sister Pradnya Mahajan. In Munde’s family, there is his eldest sibling sister Saraswati Karad, his elder brother Pandit Anna, who is a social and political activist and his two young siblings Manikrao and Venktrao.

Gopinath Munde has three daughters Yashashri, Pankaja and Pratima; Yashashri is a law student, Pankaja is an MLA and Pratima is a doctor.

Gopinath Munde was an Indian Politician from the state of Maharashtra. He was a senior leader in BJP [Bhartiya Janta Party]. In Narendra Modi’s Cabinet, he was given the ministry of Rural Development.

He was earlier an MLA, opposition leader in Maharashtra legislative assembly and a member of parliament since 2009.
Munde went to government primary school in Nathra village, Beed District and studied in classes which conducted under a tree. Later he studied in Zilla Parishad high school in Parali and finally did his BA in commerce from some college in Ambejogai.

There was a controversy about his degree few days ago, before he sworn in as the rural development Minister in 2014, he produced a document of his law degree saying he graduated in 1976, but the college itself established in 1978.

He was a close friend and colleague in college with Pramod Mahajan. He was a member of ABVP, which stands for Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad. He was also a known protestor in the time of Indira Gandhi’s imposed emergency.

Munde died in a Car Accident in New Delhi while he was leaving for Mumbai on 3rd June 2014. Party leaders Smriti Irani, Dr. Harshvardhan, MM Joshi, Sushma Swaraj, Rajnath Singh and others paid respect.

After his demise, many leaders from opposition expressed their condolence, JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav said that the nation lost a great leader. Rahul Gandhi expressed shocking reaction knowing about his death.

Vice president Hamid Ansari was profoundly saddened at the passing away of Munde, he offered condolences to the Munde family.

NCP supremo Sharad Pawar said “We have lost a dynamic mass leader. My heartfelt condolences.”

Congress president Sonia Gandhi extended heartfelt condolences on the sudden demise of Union Minister Gopinath Munde in an unfortunate road accident.
