Google Reader is now officially dead. Anyone who tries to visit the service will be served with a message from Google reader team saying “Google Reader has been discontinued” and thanking for the support.

I’m sure all of its’ users must have already migrated to alternatives because it’s been a couple of months since Google made the announcement and ever since then a lot of other companies launched their own versions of RSS readers to steal all those Google Reader users. Feedly, Digg Reader, AOL Reader are only few of them. Millions of people are already using them.

If you forgot to backup all your Reader data, don’t worry. You still have some time left to do it. Google is offering a way for Reader users to download a copy of their data via Google Takeout until 12PM PST July 15, 2013. Logging in to Takeout will give you a chance to select and backup your Google Reader data. You better back it up before it gets “systematically deleted from Google servers.”

Migrate to something new before it’s too late and have fun reading.
