Yesterday, Google officially took the wraps off Project Fi – a new wireless service which will help you get the best possible network wherever you are. Project Fi is available only to Nexus 6 owners at the moment, through an invite program, and you need a special SIM card to be able to use it.
What’s So Special About Project Fi?
For $20 per month, Project Fi users get to text, talk, use Wi-Fi tethering, voice calls/texting over Wi-Fi, and international coverage in more than 120 countries worldwide. There’s an additional charge for cellular data in the US and abroad – $10 per GB (1GB is $10/month, 2GB is $20/month, 3GB is $30/month, and so on). What actually makes project Fi different than other carriers is the fact that Google will refund, in the form of credit, any money spent on data you didn’t use.
Google also added that Project Fi numbers “live in the cloud”, meaning that users will be able to make calls and text from tablets and laptops, even if their phones aren’t close by.
