Goodyear/Chance-Vought FG-1D Corsair

ISAP XI field trip, Military Aviation Musueum, ,ECO, F4U Corsair,@ Military Aviation Museum, Virginia Beach, VA

May 2012

Folding wings are characteristic of most carrier-borne aircraft, combining here with the gull-wing design of the F4U Corsair for a distinctive pose.  First flown on May 29, 1940, it was the first single-engine fighter able to exceed 400 mph in level flight.  Produced by Goodyear in May 1945, the museum’s Corsair, BuNo. 92508, apparently spent much of its military career in storage.  Acquired by museum foudner Jerry Yagen in 1999, it is one the lowest time Corsairs known.  The Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is home to one of the world’s largest collections of warbirds in flying condition.   Nikon D7000 w/18-200 mm, processed with Aperture.
