Going Rogue

By Meplusmytrainer @meplusmytrainer
Going RogueJust a quick post today, but I wanted to share my unconventional 'Nature Workout'. Complete with a run, planks, wicked wallies and more! Today is Thanksgiving here in Canada and today I am definitely grateful for this gorgeous, sunny day. Are you practicing and attitude of gratitude today? Maybe it is something you can start today and then continue each and every day. I am slowly learning to appreciate the little things in life, because it turns out they are just as important (if not more important) then the bigger things.
Before it gets too cold, I recommend getting your butt outside for some fresh air. If you can convince a friend to come with you, the more the merrier! It is impossible to be outside among all of the gorgeous colours and not snap a few photos along the way. I was just using my ipod touch to take photos but many had their canon and nikon cameras out capturing the gorgeous colours of autumn.
The truth is, I haven't been outside for a run since I ran the Army half marathon two weeks ago, so I figured it was about time to get back out there. I wasn't running for time or a certain distance, I just wanted to get out there and run. I ended up running 6km in total but I made a few "stops" along the way! Here are my adventures of "Going Rogue". Hopefully you can turn your next walk or run into a nature workout as well!
Going Rogue
I am lucky enough to have a gorgeous (but chilly) day to get outside. This is the path that I ran on. I walked for about 0.5km to warm up. Then I ran about 1km or so until I found a sweet tree...

...just in time for some outdoor #WickedWallies Woot Woot! While it wasn't the more comfortable wall squat ever, I held it for 1 minute. Then I ran another 1km or so until found something suitable for push ups and calf raises. I was actually looking for a bench, but instead I found...
Going Rogue
...yes a log. I did 2 sets of 15 reps-push ups and the calf raises. At this point a few cyclists flew by me, but they didn't seem weirded out by what I was doing (push ups). Or if they were, they didn't show it. I wondered what I would find next. Oh ya, that bench I was looking for...

...you know what this means!!! Tricep dips!! Yes sir! I did 2 sets of 15 reps. It was also a flat area so I decided to do my PlankaDay as well. I just did 1 minute of planks today. Then I headed off to finish my run. Since I was running on a path, I decided to loop back once I hit 3km to make it a 6km run in total. On the way back I stopped at the big tree for another minute of #WickedWallies. I also stuck around by my new best friend Mr. Tree for some stretching as well before I walked home (about 0.5km).
So just to summarize:
6km Run
2 one minute Wicked Wallies
2 sets/15 reps push ups
2 sets/15 reps calf raises
2 sets/15 reps tricep dips
1 minute plank
10 minutes of stretching
You could easily add walking lunges, squats or any other exercise to this workout. I wasn't going to get to crazy, but if I was with a friend I probably would have been a little more adventurous.
I have to say, I probably could have spent all day outside. I passed so many people on bikes, running or walking. Dogs and cameras everywhere. I love that so many people chose to spend this gorgeous day outside. There were a group of people even out playing frolf (frisbee-golf). There is actually a frolf course along the path where I was running. Tomorrow I am heading back to work so the rest of my day will be spent doing laundry, prepping some food and catching up on a few emails. I am a little nervous about how productive I will actually be...why you ask? Well, I am 189 pages into The Hunger Games and I am utterly obsessed. Like I woke up early this morning to read, obsessed. It is so good. I assume I will finish the book today, so let me know if you want to borrow it.
As for the outdoor workout, what are you doing to spend every last minute outside before the snow falls? Good luck going rogue!
Happy Reading,
Me+
