The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation released their Network Responsibility Index ratings for their second year in the row. The NRI measures the amount of LGBT inclusion on most cable and broadcast cable network.

The show calculates the ratings based on the quality, quantity and diversity of the LGBT images coupled against the type of programming shown on the networks

At the same time, there is still an obvious absence of transgendered characters and stories on all television networks.

Excerpted from Variety:

While GLAAD acknowledged the networks’ gains in offering more LGBT-inclusive programming, the org said the transgender community remains underrepresented or misrepresented.

“Fairly and accurately depicting the transgender community should be seen not just as a responsibility for networks but as an opportunity,” said Mike Thompson, acting prexy of GLAAD. “There are rich characters and stories yet to be written.”

Out of all networks surveyed, the report indicated that the CW beat out all the other networks with a 33% of the network’s programming hours provide story lines, images and characters that are LGBT friendly.

Fox came in second, followed by ABC, NBC and CBS coming in fifth place. When it came to the cable networks, ABC Family received an “excellent” rating (YAY! Pretty Little Liars). Showtime, TNT, HBO, Lifetime, AMC and Syfy followed after.

USA, A&E and TBS came towards the bottom of the GLAAD’s NRI list.
