Give It Your 1%!

Posted on the 22 June 2014 by Gumptionent @gumptionent
Yo. What up?  Tony here kicking off  another blog at ya to help improve your productivity and lifestyle.  I want to get a blog out a week so if you have any topics and ideas please kick them my way.  Right now I'm watching the World Cup and I am getting hulked-up for team USA to put a pounding on Portugal (with all do respect :).

Today I want to talk about giving life your 1%.  What I mean  by 1% is taking baby steps and pacing yourself to reach your full potential now matter what it is you do.
Think of it like riding a bike.  When you first learned how to ride a bike did you just hop on, no training wheels, and start riding around as if you have done it before?  Heck no!  You had to give time, patience, and persistence.  I know some of you (I am guilty of this) just want the quick results right away without putting any time and effort in.  But if you get the confidence to work through the process and put the damn time in, maybe 2-3 years or 5 years you will have it completely handled in your life.
What does all this mean on the career side of things?  It's all the boring stuff.  It's the guy that shows up a half hour early to work and leaves a half hour late.  He packs a lunch so he can keep working while he is eating his lunch and keeps moving forward.  It all comes down to that 10,000 hours to mastery.  There's only so much time in a day, right?  And there's a lot of frustration and overwhelmingness when you look at how much time you have.  Realize that the more you do something -no matter what it is- the better you will get at it.
So where does confidence come from?  The more reference experiences you acquire, the more it will solidify the view (goal) you have.  The more reference experiences of success you have, you are going to feel more entitled and confident to step out of your comfort zone and do bigger and better tasks.  You deserve better!
Think about your life and where you were like 10 years ago.  I was a young little punk, oblivious to life and thought I was going to be young forever!  I didn't need to learn anything new because I knew it all.  I didn't think (ha, I didn't think) things were going to be so different now.  Now that I'm an older little punk, I realize things are only going to get better when I take action and make it happen.  A few years from now things are going to be so different!  And I know I have that as my rudder to push me to what I am moving towards.
Start with the baby steps.  What can I do to get better.  Have you heard of the concept of Kaizen?
In Japan Kaizen is the process in business where you just do 1% little incremental changes and the 1%+1%+1%+1%... adds up over time instead of just over night.  Think about what little tweaks you can do to get yourself better.  Kaizen has become very popular in life-coaching so even if you cannot afford a life-coach get a mentor and surround yourself with 5 people better than you.
For the last year and a half I have been learning and marketing Real Estate Investing.  I haven't had much success with it; yet, I have seen a lot of self growth and have met some very influential people. I may have not made the sale, but I got to the right connection.  My knowledge and understanding is a lot better than what is was when I first started.  I remember I had a coworker tell me he used to be in  Real Estate but he quit because he wasn't good at it.  That's why he wasn't good at it!  Because he quit.  I may not be good at it yet but I will never give up!  I will never give up on pursuing my dream of working for myself and travel the world.  Results is a byproduct of what is important and success is a byproduct of the journey.
There you have it.  I hope you really take what I said here to heart and make some improvements in your productivity.  Good luck and never give up!
