Get Out & About for the week of October 21, 2012 One of the things I love about Dallas, is that there is no shortage of things to do: educational, cultural, culinary, charitable, fashion-oriented, spiritual... you want it, Dallas serves it up! Every week there are literally dozens of options to entertain and enlighten yourself or create moments that you'll carry with you for a lifetime. Here are my highlights for this week:
Halloween is right around the corner and spooktacular events are already on the calendar for this week! The Dallas Observer has partnered with The Quarter* bar in Uptown to throw a “Reality Bites” costume contest and Halloween Party on Thursday, October 25 from 6-9PM.
Calling all housewives, master chefs, survivors, big brothers, and dance moms from the Jersey shore!  Enter the REALITY STAR COSTUME CONTEST at 8PM. The winners will be selected by Bon Blossman and Whitney Whatley, stars of Big Rich Texas!!
The Quarter will offer $2 Wells and Domestics till 10PM and Honey Boo Boo shot specials! Live music by Fingerless ghost.  For more info, visit https://www.facebook.com/events/234043480057269/

Urban Taco* at Uptown and Mockingbird Station are serving up a tasty treat in celebration of Halloween! The Spookirita, a delicious fresh pumpkin puree frozen margarita garnished with a graham cracker crust, is available for $5 during the month of October.
Guests who come in Halloween costume on Friday, October 26, Saturday, October 27 or Wednesday, October 31 will receive a complimentary Spookirita. This offer is valid all day. Limited to one per person, per day with a $5 minimum purchase.  Click here for all the details.
Get Out & About for the week of October 21, 2012 This next weekend the arts scene is having a HUGE celebration around the grand opening of the Klyde Warren Park. If that’s not ringing a bell, it’s the 5.2 acre park that’s decking over Woodall Rogers Frwy.
Enjoy two days of programming and public events showcasing Dallas’ newest park during this free grand opening weekend. The celebration will spill into the Dallas Arts District with food trucks, live music, and free admission all weekend to the Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas Museum of Art, and Nasher Sculpture Center.
Enjoy Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s The Haunted Orchestra or check out the possibility to enjoy a free matinee performance of Dallas Theater Center’s The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Diety.
But the star of the show is the Klyde Warren Park itself. On Saturday and Sunday the Park will feature over 50 FREE activities including a ribbon cutting ceremony, dog training classes, yoga, a performance by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Mah Jong games, and lots more.

Saturday night is the BIG celebration which will feature a signature music festival with performances by DJ Lucy Wrubel, Grammy-nominated Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and Dallas indie rock icons, The Polyphonic Spree. The evening will end with a massive fireworks show. If you were fortunate enough to have received one of the 6,000 wristbands that were passed out for Saturday night, then you get to attend the concert for free.  Otherwise, to get a VIP Backstage Pass with food, drink, seats, valet parking, then the price is $200 per person.. You can see a complete list of free activities and classes, get more info on the concert and buy tickets at klydewarrenpark.org.
This information originally aired on Perspectives with Ashley Berges.  Join me every Sunday on 570AM/KLIF around 8:30 PM to hear my highlights on all the best events for the upcoming week!  Click here to see additional options for events, shows, galas, exhibitions and more.
*Disclaimer: The Quarter and Urban Taco are clients of my advertising agency. Did that influence my decision to pick them to highlight this week? Absolutely! However, it does not negate the fact that they are very fun events worth sharing.
