"Morton faces former club as Pirates take on Braves
By John McGonigal / MLB.com | + 2 COMMENTS
Starting pitchers Charlie Morton of the Pirates and Julio Teheran of the Braves are coming off extremely different last outings as Pittsburgh hosts Atlanta on Saturday at PNC Park.
Morton couldn't get out of the first inning last time out against the Nationals, surrendering nine earned runs on eight hits and managing to get just two outs. It was Morton's shortest outing of his career.
Conversely, Teheran threw seven scoreless innings and allowed just one hit on Sunday against the Mets, arguably his best start of the 2015 campaign.
Things to know for this game
• Morton is in his seventh season with the Pirates, but began his career in Atlanta. In his rookie year -- his lone season with the Braves -- the right-hander had a 4-8 record with a 6.15 ERA.
Morton never faced the Pirates with Atlanta.
• A couple of the Pirates' hottest hitters have differing success historically against Tehran.
Star centerfielder Andrew McCutchen has had Teheran's number, going 5-for-12 (.417) with two home runs and four RBIs in 13 career appearances.
However, Pittsburgh outfielder Starling Marte, who has 12 home runs and 45 RBIs this season, has just one hit in 12 at-bats against Teheran.
• The Braves haven't fared well recently against right-handed starting pitching.
In their last four games against righties -- the Nationals' Doug Fister, Jordan Zimmermann and Stephen Strasburg, and the Mets' Matt Harvey -- Atlanta has managed just 20 hits and one run scored in 26 2/3 innings.
