Funk With Daniel Wilson’s New Single, ‘Sinner of the Week’ [Stream]

Daniel Wilson’s newest track, “Sinner of the Week”, harkens back to the days when Michael Jackson and Earth, Wind, and Fire ruled the dance floor. It’s a funky number that integrates modern synths with ‘80s disco beats, and heavily features Wilson’s classic falsetto tendencies.

Wilson’s soulful, gospel-meets-indie sound has been around since 2014, when he released his debut EP, Young Rubbish, through London-based label Zap Records. Since then, he’s put out another EP, Boy Who Cried Thunder, also with Zap Records. He started previewing his upcoming release back in April with “Wedding Daze”, another falsetto-heavy piece that turned on marching-band themes and Wilson’s signature gospel tone. “Sinner of the Week”, released in June, is the second track from the album and its eponymous song. It’s the most liberated, playful and groovy Wilson has gotten, suggesting the Michigan-based sensation is turning a new corner with this EP.
