new york fashion week, 2014

The Runway lights sparkled bright, when the Mercedes Benz NYFW 2014 officially kicked off on the 6th of Feb. The freezing cold and icy snowfall did not stop the fashion folk from traveling the city for the different shows every day this week. Full of glamour and glitz, people from every facet of the industry along with a number of celebrities in hunt for their red carpet gowns and tuxedo’s came to New York City to be a part of this mega event. The official Hub of MBFW this year was the Lincoln Center hosting the shows of designers like Carolina Herrera, Richard Chai, and Reem Acra although some designers like Alexander Wang and Jason Wu showcased their collections offsite.

The runway collections this season included oh so! feminine and futuristic ensembles with a touch of elegance and charm. Fall fashion more or less includes a lot of black and other hues of dark colors but seeing the pop of bright colors this season was fun and kept things interesting. From edgy fashion and layered clothing to fluid elegant evening gowns, and from monochromes to bright colors and prints, the designers went all out in their creations.

Sunday night bought about Dianne Von Furstenberg’s collection celebrating the 40th anniversary of the well known “wrap dress”. The collection was a burst of bright colors and unique prints that captivated the entire audience. While on a manic Monday evening Donna Karan celebrated 30 blissful years of her cherished label with a beautiful display of silhouettes and breath-taking designs. “I was so clear in what I wanted to say,” she said in an interview. “I wanted to show the strength of the woman. I wanted to show that after 30 years I think we stand for something that is absolutely, iconically Donna Karan. I wanted it to be a reflection of the past, and the present coming into the future.”

While Rodarte’s collection included spectacularly unique “star wars” inspired dresses that kept up to their name and style, Kenneth Cole had an urban inspired collection with wide brimmed hats and pinstripes with a pop of red sequins for the women and a deeper maroon for the men’s wear. Zac Posen’s ultra glam collection of chic simple day wear and unfussy but extravagant evening gowns was marked as one of his best collections yet. On the other hand designers like Oscar De La Renta, Jenny Packham, and Naeem Khan presented their glamorous and elegant evening gowns that glided beautifully down the runway mesmerizing the crowds.

The list and the labels for NYFW just don’t seem to stop with every coming year. The spark and enigma that the show creates is beyond words, for a show to this stature allures every major fashionista around the globe. All in all, just like the past years the New York fashion Week ends with a much satisfied retort and with the anticipation of an even bigger event in the near future.
