From a Portrait Attempt to a Drawing

By Pmeurice

Recently, as I was struggling and messing in the studio, raging not to have a model to work from, just trying to scale my work through photographs, I decided to start a series of Portrait studies - using one of my favorite models : K.
Doing so, I can work from both photographs and do some small sketches made from Life from times to times. But I am attracted by the prospect of working from a person I know, and if trying different mediums... (Drawing, pastels, and Oil...)
There lies the danger though! Someone familiar is forcing the artist to Likeness, and missing an attempt can drive to big disappointment. Yesterday, I started a charcoal sketch from one of the photos taken earlier. After half an hour messing about, I just finished the drawing giving up the attempt of likeness. What was it? I was tired, in a bad mood? or was the music I was listening to? Impossible to focus... Rather than raging on my subject, I practiced my drawing and let it ending like this :

Visage Study

I post this attempt - In a way, this blog is also a way to track my experiences and experiments... But I can't help to judge this drawing having in mind my original intention.
Sometimes, it's hard to be forgiving with oneself.
