Friday Box Office: Not A ‘Fantastic’ Weekend

Posted on the 08 August 2015 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

It is entirely possible that Fantastic Four might not even debut in #1 this weekend. Bad word of mouth is causing Fantastic Four’s numbers to be hurt. Audiences have agreed with critics giving the film a C- cinemascore. That’s really bad for a non-horror film (really, any film). Especially for a genre film that sees a lot of upfront business from fans wanting to see the movie early. With only 11.2M yesterday, and a decent chunk of that from Thursday previews, Fantastic Four might lose to Mission Impossible Rogue Nation’s second weekend. Audiences have been warming up to The Gift, which is tracking above early predictions. Ricki and the Flash is a little below, and Shaun The Sheep is disappointing big time, unlikely to even crack the top 10. Ricki and the Flash and The Gift both got a B cinemascore, and Shaun landed a B+.

Updated Weekend Projections:
1) Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation- 28M Weekend
2) Fantastic Four- 27M Weekend
3) The Gift- 11M Weekend
4) Vacation- 8.5M Weekend
5) Ant-Man- 7.7M Weekend
6) Minions- 7.3M Weekend
7) Ricki and the Flash- 7M Weekend
8) Trainwreck- 6.2M Weekend
9) Pixels- 5M Weekend
10) Southpaw- 4.4M Weekend
11) Shaun The Sheep- 4M Weekend
