Fortaleza to São Luís via Barreirinhas

Fortaleza, Brazil

Fortaleza is a city famous for nightlife and for beaches.  There are lots of tours being sold everywhere, I even saw someone selling a 'visit 7 beaches in a day' tour.  I did not take any tour but went for a run on the beachfront pedestrian area and visited the bars of the downtown area at night.  I regret not visiting Morro Branca, this would have been an easy day trip and I could have taken some great pictures.

Barreirinhas, Brazil

On the way to Sao Luis, I stopped over in Barreirinhas, this is a city and a municipality.  In the city there are many places to stay, and you will find tours to the dunes.  The tour I took was well worth the stop over in Barreirinhas, and one of the best sites of Brazil.  There are sand dunes that have clear water oases, large dunes, also the desert meets the jungle on one side and the ocean on another.  There are lots of birds and monkeys to photograph as well as the amazing views.

Overnight bus from Fortaleza to Sao Luis, 19 hours, 160 Reais

I took the bus to from Fortaleza to Sao Luis and it was easy to organize a stop over in Barreirinhas for a couple of nights then take another bus to Sao Luis from there.  The bus service I used was Guanabara, this is another great bus service in Brazil.
