For The Love Of Trainers
Within the past year or so, the women’s fashion scene has really picked up on the trainers trend. No longer are trainers reserved for tomboy types or those going for a brisk jog. Instead, the athletic-style shoes have gotten a major fashion makeover, and now you will see them just about everywhere! Since they have become such a popular footwear choice, brands have really stepped up their game, and they are coming out with some super unique looks—some for the risk-takers and some for the minimalist types.
Many people who would have never thought to wear trainers as a fashion item have really grown to embrace the trend. This post is an ode to the footwear, something that’s become so prevalent in my wardrobe within the past two years. The beauty of trainers is their surprising versatility. You can wear them with just about anything. Below are some of my favorite ways to pair them with outfits…
On rainy days: It’s no secret that summertime is notorious for pop-up rain showers. Especially for rainy days in the summer, trainers are the perfect choice for a laid-back outfit that’s also functional. Wear a pair that is either darkly coloured or something you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Then, to finish the look, a crisp tee, some leggings, and one of the many the more casual jackets suggested by Lyst (who also have images of models wearing some of these looks as a reference point) would complete the ideal athleisure get-up for a rainy day.
On days out and about: For some reason, wearing trainers with dresses is extra fun. Maybe it’s channeling my inner-child, but no matter the reason, I don’t miss any opportunity to slip on some printed trainers with my daytime dresses for a playful look. The looks in this slideshow from Stylecaster are helpful for thinking outside of the box!
To work: Although this might only make sense for those in the creative field, it’s still an avenue worth noting! Sleek loafer-style trainers have created a crossover niche that easily meshes with a button-down Oxford and tailored trousers. Or, choose a neutral pair of trainers to wear with an all-black blazer-and-jeans ensemble—it’s chic and polished. The more you try on your shoes with potential work outfits, the more you’ll see how versatile they are!
For nighttime activities: Who said trainers were just for the daytime? As mentioned, a lot of brands have elevated their sneaker styles to include a ton of different looks, many of these being some suitable for the nighttime. A tip here says, “you don’t need to wear heels with your cocktail dress,” and the accompanying picture is proof.
Although heels are a woman’s instant confidence boost and work wonders on the legs, sometimes comfort wins out. With all the trainer styles on the market to suit any personal preference, you really never need to wear heels ever again if you’re so against them! (Enter platform sneakers.) Fashion favours this athletic footwear, so why not let it inhabit a corner of your closet?
