Foolish Heart by Steve Perry.

Posted on the 09 August 2012 by Melodicwisdom

Steve Perry has a knack for writing sad love songs. Sometimes I can’t even listen to them because they make me cry. I can relate to his lyrics as if they were mine. Today’s song is one of those that pulls on my heart strings, a little too much right now.

Foolish Heart was released as a single in November of 1984 from his debut solo album, Street Talk. It went to #18 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and to #2 on Adult Contemporary in February of 1985.

The lyrics describe a person who is terribly lonely but is also afraid of letting someone in and getting their heart broken again. It’s a plea to their heart, asking it not to them down again. Foolish Heart, hear me callin’. Stop before you start fallin’. Foolish heart, heed my warnin’. You’ve been wrong before, don’t be wrong anymore. Foolish heart…

A perfect example of how love is unpredictable and sometimes painful. Above is the official video.
