Food Review: Butchershop Bar & Grill, 1055 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, G3 7UD

It’s all about the meat

Following a recent visit to Hutchesons Bar & Brasserie we finally made it along to the original The Butchershop Bar & Grill for some meat.

Inside is relaxed and informal. Cosy booths or tables through the back seperated by a cocktail bar area.

We were intrigued by the meat menu and the staff brought out cuts of meat to emphasize the size of the Tomahawk, Porterhouse, and bone in sirloin and bone in fillet.  One for another night, the Tomahawk (middle of image) was over 2 kilos!

As it was a Sunday we went for a sirloin roast (£13.95) and half a kilo of Cote de boeuf (£32.95) after discussion with the staff over how much meat we thought we could eat!  A topping of bone marrow was added for an extra £2.95.

The food did take a while to arrive, however, it did take us a while to pick though what we wanted from the menu and the restaurant was full to the brim.

For drinks we went for a 175ml Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina (£6.75) and 175ml of the French Pinot Noir (£7.95) both was nice but perhaps not as smooth as we’ve had elsewhere.

The cote de boeuf at 500g was a huge slab of meat, cooked medium-rare. Served with delicious chips, tomato and a side of bearnaise sauce.

Sirloin roast with carrots, green beans, parsnips, roast potatoes, sweet corn and Yorkshire pudding. Moist beef and crisp veg. Spongy pudding – perfect for soaking up the gravy.

To finish with we had a couple of light summery cocktails – a Cardamom Cooler (Beefeater, rhubarb liquer, cardomom pods, syrup and pineapple)  and The Grey Mare (Gin Mare, apricot liquer, earl gray tea and sugar)  (both £6.95) Both were perfect for a humid day.

No wifi which may be a plus or minus depending on who you are.
Female toilets clean, tidy with a baby changing area.
Total bill was £78.45

TL;DR
+ great steak and chips
+ staff very good
+ relaxed and informal

– maybe a bit too relaxed as the food was slow in coming out
