Food At A Portuguese Fair

Eating at a Portuguese fair is a cultural experience I recommend for all visitors. There’s plenty of variety, all in one convenient location. Regional products at the annual Festas do Senhor de Matosinhos include Bolo do Caco from Madeira, Jesuítas from Santo Tirso, Pão de Ló from Ovar, liqueurs from many districts, and much more.

I brought my friend visiting from Canada to the festival of Senhor de Matosinhos and the sights and smells were such a temptation, we wanted to eat ALL THE THINGS. Paulo joined us after he finished work and we feasted on: moelas (chicken gizzards), orelheiras (pig ears), pimentos Padrón (Galician peppers), polvo (octopus), cogumelos salteados (marinated mushrooms). I have only phone pictures this time because I didn’t bring my camera, but I’ve got a big post with pictures of the food at Senhor de Matosinhos 2015.

Senhor de Matosinhos 2017 is on from May 12-June 11. Get there by metro: it’s the last stop on Senhor de Matosinhos (blue line). Bring your appetite!
