Five Friday Facts: Brazil

This week we bring you some green facts related to Brazil, host of the World Cup next year and the Olympics in 2016.

  • Brazil has 12% of the world’s amount of surface freshwater.

  • 70% of the country is still covered with original vegetation and 30% of the world’s remaining tropical forests are located there.

  • Around 90% of the electricity generation and 45% of the total Brazilian energy needs are met by renewable energy sources (almost all hydropower).

  • 95% of brand-new cars sold are flex fuel (gasoline + ethanol).

  • Over 97% of aluminum cans are recycled.
