2. Time is of the essence.
While most women realize that their fertility declines as they get older, they often don’t think that infertility is something that could ever happen to them. Many couples try on their own for a long time, but if you’re trying and not having any luck it’s best to get checked out. Experts say that if you’re under 35 and have been trying to get pregnant for a year, it’s time to see a fertility specialist. If you’re 35 or over and have been trying for 6 months, it’s time for you to get help.
3. Seeing a specialist is just a conversation – not a commitment.
Reproductive endocrinologists, commonly called fertility specialists, are specialized ob/gyns who are dedicated to helping women and couples as they try to build their family. A specialist can be your biggest ally, can provide you with the information you’re looking for and answers to your questions. Making that first appointment doesn’t mean that you’re signing up for any kind of treatment, it really just means that you’re open to getting more information and talking about your goal of becoming a parent.
4. Once you ask for help, you’ll be glad that you did.
Every woman’s fertility journey will be different, but your specialist will guide you through the process and help you to learn about the treatment options available and which may be the best option for you. A specialist has the same goal that you do – for you to start a family. A Merck survey found that 91% of couples who went to see a fertility specialist wish that they had gone sooner.
