Foxes are cute. Yup.

Gingitsune is a story about Makoto, the next oracle of a shrine, and Gintaro, an old servant of the god Inari that delves in the Saeki shrine Makoto lives in. The both of them have the mission to help and listen to the pleas of humans.

What drew me to watch this anime first is the fact that it deals with yokai, you should know by now that I’m hopeless when it comes to yokai anime (and idol anime, but that is a whole different matter entirely). I did not really expect anything special other than it being about a girl who can see spirits, specifically, a spirit inhabiting a shrine. And that is exactly what I got.

I am not sure how they will proceed from there on with the plot, from what I could gather from this single first episode, there might not be a plot covering the whole season but little series of episodes covering a small story, or each episode being about how they help someone. Something like that. It seems to be light-hearted and not too complicated. It is definitely the kind of story that puts a smile on your face and that is exactly what one needs when winter comes near.

Now, I say that but the problem with that kind of series is that each episode might differ in quality. Guess we will see.

The thing I liked the most was Gintaro’s character and his interactions with Makoto.

As I said in the summary, Gintaro is an old fox, he has been serving Inari for a very long time and has met many oracles. He is quite old and he looks like a giant plushie. (Unless he is angry, he must be quite scary when he is angry.) On the other hand, Makoto is a cute young girl who lost her mother. Put the both of them together and you have an adorable pair. Gintaro cannot help but feels protective over Makoto and she cannot help but treat him as the big plushie he is. I tell you this is adorable.

The whole episode did a good job of introducing things to us.

In the end, I think this was a pretty good first episode, it did not exactly make me want to watch the next one because it did not exactly give me something to look forward to, but at the same time, it did make me want to see more of Makoto and Gin. So, as predicted, I guess I will continue watching this. Who am I to refuse a dose of cuteness when I can get one?

This series is streaming on Crunchyroll.
