DUTIES:  Responsible for performing specific duties related to fire and emergency medical operations. Required to participate in a variety of training to include: fire, EMS, and special operation activities. Responsible for maintenance of firefighting and EMS equipment. Participates in fire prevention and inspection programs as well as public education assignments. Required to operate emergency vehicles. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Requires graduation from high school or its equivalent. Must possess Utah State Firefighter II Certification, Utah State Paramedic Certification (applicants not certified as a Paramedic and/or Firefighter II must currently be enrolled in a program to obtain the certification, and be certified prior to hire date), ACLS, BLS and PALS/PEPP. If applicant possesses other than Utah certification, he/she must obtain Utah certification prior to hire date. Must possess and maintain a valid Utah driver’s license and have a good driving record. Must be able to meet the physical requirements established by the Department. Must have no illegal drug use/convictions within the last five years. Department policy does not allow tattoos, body piercing, or branding to be visible while in any Department uniform or at any time when the employee is identifiable as a member of the Department. Successful applicants will be required to pass medical, psychological, polygraph examinations and a comprehensive background review prior to hire. Applicants will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and will be subject to random drug testing. TESTING PROCESS: Qualified applicants will be contacted to schedule an oral interview. Applicants recommended by the Interview Board will be required to complete a written Fire/EMS exam. Upon completion of the written exam, successful candidates will be required to participate in a physical agility test (1 ½ mile run in 15:54, 16″vertical jump, 25 push-ups, and 35 sit-ups in one minute). Applicants who successfully pass the written exam and physical agility test will be scheduled to complete a Firefighter Skills evaluation. All scheduling will be done at the Citys discretion.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

SALARY:  The position is non-exempt. The rate of pay for the position is $3,748 to $4,635 per month depending upon qualifications. Starting pay will generally start at the lower end of the salary range. Lateral considerations: The length of full-time service for Firefighter/Paramedics will be utilized in determining starting wage, with a maximum credit of 5 years. Service credit will only apply to starting wage and shall not apply to seniority, vacation and/or sick leave accrual, or any other benefits. Overtime may accrue as compensatory time.
