Female Trans America record attempts by Anderson and Villines

There are two Women's Trans America record attempts underway.
Britains Mimi Anderson started on Thursday Sept. 7th in Los Angeles town hall and Sandra Villines started on Monday Sept. 11th at the town hall in San Francisco. Both are heading to the New York town hall.

Mimi Anderson 53 years old Start Sept. 7th LA - NY 2850 miles Goal 53 days = 53.77 miles/day
Sandra Villines 45 years old Start Sept. 11th SF - NY 3067 miles

The "official" Guinness Record still stands at 2871 miles and 69 days, 2hours and 40 minutes from Mavis Hutchison from South Africa in 1979. Although this Guinness Record was broken a couple of years back by a British runner but it was never ratified by Guinness. Mavis Hutchison.

Lorna Richards (nee Michael ) (age 34) crossed the continent in 64 days as part of Trans Am in 1993. Huntington Beach, CA-New York, NY 6.19-8.21.93 2,912.35 miles in 64 stages 45.5 miles/day which is still the fastest known female crossing.

Since Michaels run was during a stage race we can assume that she did it in around 63.5 days. This is the time to beat. That would be 45.864 miles/day. Definitely not an impossible task since the TransAm race took place during the grueling heat of the summer.

Mimi Anderson brings a huge list of running accomplishments into this run like Spartathlon finishes, the Jogle record (Running from John O'Groats to Lands End. 840 miles 12 days 15 hrs 46 mins) and a 1,968km run from Pietermaritzburg to Paarl in South Africa over 32 days, just to name a few.

Sandra Villines just started ultrarunning in 2015 but she has won several 100 milers and, recently, the Badwater 135.

Update after week 1

Mimi Anderson covered 422.5 miles in the first week including crossing the Mojave desert in 105F.

Sandra Villines did 170.5 miles in 3 days

Mimi Anderson 60.4 miles/day
Sandra Villines 56.8 miles/day

It's still way too early to predict anything. It takes around 3 weeks to get accustomed to the daily punishment of running so many miles each week.
