FAT-2-FIT 22-Best Workout Song Ever
Yogini Valarie Devi-
There are two schools of thought on Yoga music: You either have it or you dont.

I play music during class .. soft, melodic, with nature sounds. In all, Yoga music is meant to be cerebral. The aim is not to focus on whats going on externally, but internally, within the muscles and the thoughts.

Music -- especially ‘workout music’ -- is meant to be loud, fast and pounding. Glaring guitars, beating drums and screaming lyrics draw the focus out of the body, so that both the fine nuances and dynamic impact of the physical exercise and mental unfolding is being drowned out. That and, it often prompts us to move beyond our means, and when that happens, injury occurs.

In all, for true change to not just occur but be long lasting, it must be internal -- truly ‘embedded’ on a sublime level. So the music is soft so we can focus on where real change occurs -- deep within.

Below is just one example of music played during a Yoga class .

For me, different music suits different kinds of workouts. Cardio and bike rides have to be fast and high energy while lifting can be almost anything as long as it has some energy, although I don’t have many slow songs on the pod. Here are but a few favs -

Cardio Energy (a few favs) -- PINK!, All American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, Yes, Jay Sean, Jason Derulo

Other workout favs -- Alanis Morisette, KT Tunstall, Lady Gaga, The Script, Smash Mouth

There’s no way I could choose just one song. Sometimes I pick a song to get me “into” a mood, and some days I look for music to match my mood. Songs for me are like choosing what to wear…depends on the day!
