Glitter. Have you noticed it? It’s ominpresent right now. Everywhere you look, there’s glitter. Glitter on the face, glitter on the nails, glitter on shoes and purses, on belts and jeans.
Glitter is in. Jump on the bandwagon, ladies, if you want to be trendy.
Or not.
When you get ready to dive into the latest craze–zebra prints, skinny jeans, string bikinis, platform shoes, or feathers attached to your hair or worn as earrings–stop and pause.
Ask yourself: What Would Audrey Do?
Yes, that’s right, Audrey Hepburn. She may no longer be with us, but her style lessons will last forever.
Now, before you get excited, hear me clearly: I’m not saying to stay away from the latest trends or fads. What I am saying, however, is to make the fad or trend work for you. Think Audrey Hepburn. Yes, she was thin and could wear pretty much anything designers decided to put on her body, but the thing is, she wore what said “Audrey.” Even when we want to “play” with style and try something new, we still have to feel comfortable with our style choices. And our choices have to be appropriate for our body types and ages.
These nails are adorable; mine looked just like this.
Admittedly, I saw the image of the pink nails with the fourth finger painted with silver nailpolish on Pinterest. I pinned it, and I tried it myself. I actually did like it. It was fun, appropriate for summer. Appropriate for me as I am not in the college classroom teaching right now, but rather sitting poolside and attending swim meets on weekends. I can get away with it for summer.
However, it was a little bit of a stretch for me, and prior to doing it, I asked myself, “What would Audrey do?” I did it. I thought to myself, as a style icon on the grandest scale, she might approve of it. She might like glitter on the fourth finger only. Just a touch of whimsy. Just a bit of flair.
And then I found the gorgeous photo of Audrey above with glitter on her eyes. The photo of her is so stunning and mesmerizing, you can’t help but smile with her as you look at it. She has a pleasant, contented look on her face, as if she is so comfortable with who she is. And I think she was. I think her comfort with herself resonates in every photo you see of her.
In the end, I was content with my glitter nails. I liked the way they looked, and I receive compliments on them.
