For example, Taraji P. Henson fully accepts that she entered the flashy celeb world rather late:
“It’s supposed to be over for me at 46, but here I am. I’m a late bloomer, and I’m okay with that. Know why? Late bloomers last looong. People thought I was crazy, but being a mom early enhanced my talent. It opened up a side of me that I didn’t know I had, that sense of duty and protection, and it kept me grounded in Hollywood. I’m still that young, vivacious girl, but I have the wisdom of a woman. Now I can go to the clubs and know my limit. I’m not throwing up…I’m not going home with some fool!”
Damn right! She’s just getting started and we already know she’s only going to get better!
In her interview, Jennifer Lopez shocks us by admitting she didn’t appreciate her looks when she was younger:
“I never appreciated my body or my looks when I was in my 20s. Now I’m like, Look at me! Look at you! Not in a conceited or arrogant way—I just appreciate myself in a way I didn’t when I was that age. And it’s not about perfection. I like the scars that I have.”
Yes, seriously, LOOK AT YOU, J.Lo! You look stunning!
And Kate Moss, who goes nude in her spread, says she never felt comfortable doing it when she first started out as a model:
“From the beginning, photographers always got me to take my clothes off, even though I don’t like my body at all. I just had to get comfortable with being naked.”
Seems like she’s very comfortable with that now!
Jessica Chastain talks about beauty and sexuality in reference to how Hollywood tends to view women, and the unfairness of it all:
“In our society, women are valued for their sexual attraction. I’d like to get away from the sex symbol idea of what beauty is. If you put a male actor in a role in which he can’t hold down a relationship because he’s so focused on his job, he goes with prostitutes, he’s fighting for the good of all against the good of the few. Okay, we’ve seen those characters before. The renegade, the loner—that’s the male lead, right? But for some reason, women aren’t supposed to be that. We’re not supposed to be ambitious, we’re not supposed to be ‘overprepared.’”
We think Jess is definitely breaking down those boundaries!
Finally, there’s Donatella Versace, reminiscing about the day Michelle Obama picked that gorgeous rose gold dress to wear to her last State Dinner:
“She [picked the dress]. She is a woman who knows what she wants. The speeches she made during Hillary’s campaign should be written down—they make up a philosophy of life. If she ever ran for president she would win. We are all in mourning about the American election; it preyed upon people’s phobias. But we should continue to go ahead as far as possible, with all the women in the world.”
