False Sense of Patriotism

Posted on the 16 December 2013 by Technocowgirl @TechnoCowgirl

Do you vote selfishly, or for the common good? Have you any clue what you’re even voting for? Do you care? Not long ago, I was grueling over a voting ballot. I was new to the area, not up on local politics. After three hours, I needed a break. Grabbing the garbage, I headed downstairs to the dumpster; opening the lid, I threw in the large bag. As I turned around, I saw my neighbor licking an envelope –sealing it. “What are you doing?” I ask. He informed me, he had finished voting and was preparing it for mailing. I was astounded he’d finished so quickly –commenting accordingly.

“I’m still trying to decipher mine”, I sighed. “How’d you finish so fast”, I ask. “I just voted NO on everything”, he boasted. “You mean you didn’t read anything on the ballot?” “Nope”, he said, “But, at least I can say I voted.” It was at this moment I had to make a choice; go to jail for slapping his ignorant ass, or, just turn away. I chose turn away; dragging my fury up the stairs, just as I drug the trash down. I was in disbelief! How could someone vote in this manner? Surely it had to be a crime! I mean, if one man’s vote ever counted, it’s in a local election!

I done research to see if there was a law against voting in this manner –and, found there’s not. This new revolution just didn’t sit right with me. Could this be the very reason our Nation is in such political peril? People voting simply for a false sense of patriotism? Voting simply for the right to bitch? Not reading, or researching –just marking answers? Voting is not a privilege, it’s a serious American obligation. And, despite what some think, your vote affects other people besides you! If this is how you vote, do us all a favor –DON’T VOTE! You’re false sense of patriotism, gives me a true feeling of betrayal!
