Fall Tablescape

By Adrienne Boswell @chiccalifornia1

It's finally here, the season the internet goes pumpkin nutszo for!! The days are getting shorter, the leaves are turning and it's now acceptable to bust out all 20 of your plaid scarves and your brown leather boots, even if it's still 90 degrees in your neck of the woods. I'm usually the last to jump on the fall bandwagon (I'm such a summer girl) but even this year I am getting roped into the excitement of the season. I did a little fall decorating last weekend and my favorite spot hands down is my fall tablescape.

Layers are the key to my table this fall. I have an old wooden board that used to be the top of a dresser. And then I layered an old cabinet door on top of that. I'm carrying over my summer obsession for turkish towels right into fall by using this dark gray towel to add some extra texture.

My original plan to decorate my table this fall was to use tons of heirloom pumpkins. Guess who had heirloom pumpkins last week? No one! But in my quest, I did stumble upon these mini eggplants at the Farmers Market and I instantly knew they would be perfect. Truth me told, I have no idea how to prepare them to eat. (recipes anyone?) I just loved the colors and anything mini is irresistible right?

The Farmers Market also had Dahlia's galore and the colors are so beautiful. The deep plums and burgundies really caught my eye. Which is funny because I'm not usually a fan of the dark reds. But they pair so stunningly with the lighter colors like coral orange and the pink roses I picked up.

And since the real pumpkins remained elusive I added a gold chevron and a gray pumpkin I found a few weeks ago at Hobby Lobby. I'm loving the contrast between the gold and the gray.

Every year I change out my outdoor planters to beautiful kales and soft, fuzzy textured winter greens. They last throughout the fall and often well into winter. I thought I'd bring those textures indoors this year. While I love the dahlias, they will only last a few days. The mixed textures and hues in the kales will last way longer. When I change up my table they can head outside to the front porch for the remainder of the season and beyond.

Let's marvel at this succulent for just a minute ok? First, I have managed to keep this planter of succulents alive from California to Washington to our current home in North Carolina. Major accomplishment for this girl's black thumb track record.

This guy took a real liking to the weather in North Carolina and grew like gangbusters this summer. I decided to bring the whole pot in so I could admire it up close and personal.

These mini eggplants are nearly impossible for mini hands to resist!

I found these rustic galvanized chargers at Hobby Lobby (Similar chargers HERE) and I layered them with vintage Mrs. Smith pie tins. I tied my napkins in a casual knot and added those cute mini eggplants. Some gold silverware adds just a bit of glam back into all that rustic.

I love the look of mixing and matching plates and cups for what you have available. We rarely entertain for large groups so I didn't have enough of any one plate or glass to go around. Vintage juice glasses and these gold wine glasses mix perfectly. And I like to use different plates for the heads of the table anyway. This time I added white ironstone plates for some variety.

Hope you'll find some inspiration here for your own fall tablescape. I had fun putting it together and I feel officially fall ready! Happy Fall Y'all!
