I'm just going to say it, Fall is the best season and everyone knows it. Part of what makes it so great is the harvest; there are so many yummy things that come with Fall! The number one Flavor of Fall has to be apple. To celebrate the changing of the seasons, I was in the mood to make my mom's apple sauce cookies. While I was shopping at Walmart for all of my ingredients, I came across the seasonal Candy Apple M&M's and had to try them! I decided to grab some regular m&m's to throw into the cookies as well and they made a great and colorful substitute to the basic chocolate chip.After the cookies were done, I put together this little Fall gift basket filled with some of the cookies, candy apple m&m's, and Mott's apple juice- it makes a wonderful Fall gift for anyone! My nieces, nephew, and I doorbell ditched some of our neighbors leaving in our place the bundles of cookies. We loved hearing their reactions, as we hid around the corners, to the surprises we left. It's such a simple way to serve someone and yet so fulfilling. My mom's applesauce cookies are so delicious and different than the traditional cookie, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!Bake Temp 375 FahrenheitBake Time 9-12 minutes (just keep a close watch, when the edges start to brown- they're done!)Mix the wet ingredients first- apple sauce, soda, butter/ shortening, sugar, and eggs- until dough is smooth then add the dry ingredients- flour, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, salt. When dough is well mixed add the m&m's and/ or chocolate chips. Spoon onto a greased cookie sheets and bake.2 Cups Apple Sauce 2 tsp Soda 1 Cup Butter/ Shortening 2 Cups Sugar4 Eggs4 Cups Flour1 tsp Cinnamon1 tsp Cloves1 tsp Nutmeg1 tsp SaltM&M's and/ or Chocolate Chips1-2 Cups Oatmeal- optional
