Facebook boss tried Sony's Morpheus before buying Oculus
Project Morpheus marketing executive Guy Longworth has revealed Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg’s request for a tech demo of the PlayStation 4 VR tech in the lead up to the social network’s acquisition of rival Oculus Rift.
Speaking at a Games Marketing 2014 session, as reported by Gamespot, Longworth said Zuckerberg specifically requested a tech demo.
Longworth said he wondered why Zuckerberg wanted to see it, and now believes Zuckerberg was checking out the competition ahead of his purchase of Oculus.
“All the folks at Oculus have got big smiles on today,” he said of the deal, but like other Sony executives before him put a positive spin on it.
“If you think about VR, not just in terms of gaming, I think wearable technology is a huge trend that’s going to continue,” he said.
“I think that being able to have experiences that are truly deep and immersive, that it somehow makes you feel you are there, is something that people want. If you could really deliver that in the future, that would be huge.”
