Experiments with Dry Point and Carborundum

By Ianbertram @IanBertram

As part of what I hope will be a new series of prints inspired by the Neolithic Rock Art of Northumberland and North Yorkshire, I'm experimenting with dry point and carborundum. I've used carborundum before, on collagraph plates but until now had no real success with drypoint. It's too early to say what will come out of these, but I'm enjoying the experimentation.

As part of exploring the images I'm also doing some pastel sketches. These have rather unexpectedly turned out to be very vigorous and colourful and also to be less literal in their use of the rock art themes. When I have time I will scan a couple of these and add them to this post.

It will be a challenge I know to combine the vigour of these sketches, with the more subtle effects produced by carborundum printing. It should be fun trying.
