Everything your Parents Need to Know about Medical Marijuana

Medical marijuana has been something of a hot button issue during the recent years, and many people believe the reason for the resurgence in popularity and acceptance of the substance is the disposal of the falsities that led to marijuana being made illegal in the first place. The modern age of the internet has allowed communication to flow freely in ways that haven't been possible before, and that has helped dispel many of the untruths circulating around cannabis. If you are a member of the younger generations, either the Millennials or Gen X, you probably have heard quite a bit from both sides regarding medical marijuana, but what do your parents think? Those who feel the need to discuss medical marijuana with their parents should remember several key factors, all of which have been outlined below.

Active Ingredients

While a large majority of patients who are prescribed medical marijuana still inhale the medicine through some means of smoking, there is no reason why that should be the only method of consumption. The active ingredients within cannabis can easily be extracted and used to create more therapeutic substances like oils and tinctures. These ingredients are typically activated during the smoking process, but they can be activated in other ways as well. The active compounds are called cannabinoids, and there are more than 100 of them in marijuana. The most commonly known cannabinoids are THC, which is the psychoactive compound responsible for the 'high' associated with marijuana, and CBD, which is generally accepted as the primary cannabinoid with medical value. CBD oil is extremely helpful in treating neurological disorders such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and even Parkinson's disease.

Widespread Acceptance

Before the elections on November 8th of 2016, there were 25 states, along with the District of Columbia, that approved medical cannabis for patients who were prescribed the medicine by a certified physician. After those elections, the number of states jumped up to 29. That means more than half of the entire United States has access to medical cannabis, and the number is only going to continue to rise as the laws become more in line with the truth of the substance and its medical value. Some states where medical cannabis remains illegal, like South Carolina, have preemptively legalized CBD extracts for medical use.

Impressive Results

There are few medicines out there that can offer the same results as medical cannabis for those who truly need it, certainly without any of the horrible side effects associated with artificial chemical drugs. There are countless examples of family members using CBD oil to treat seizures in their loved ones of all ages, and video evidence shows that such treatments are often ridiculously effective within moments. One child who suffered from chronic seizures went from over 300 seizures per week to 2 or 3 per month, which is miraculous.
