Today we were asked to attend seminar conducted by a Renowned Cardiologist Dr. Navin C. Nanda MD. He showed us some three dimensional ecocardiographic videos. It was a trilling moment to actually visualize the heart from all planes.

What makes the heart go Lub Dubb Lub Dubb?

For those of who want to know, the heart is located in the chest, one third of the heart lies in the right side, while the majority lies in the left side. (Check out the picture below to actually see the location.)

Now, the heart has the most important function what so ever, it pumps blood, supplies the nutrients that are present in the blood to the entire body. The deoxygenated blood (Blue in ECHO) is sent to the Lungs and that blood returns as red ones ( In ECHO).

Just imagine your heart being the machine that runs the boat.

This machine has several chambers like the right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle and left ventricle. And each atrium is connected to the ventricles by valves and each ventricle is connected with pipes (Blood vessels) like the pulmonary artery and aorta.

What makes your Heart Beat?

Like the machine in the motor boat, your heart needs constant electrical stimulation, which are provided by a system called the conduction system of the heart. There are sevarl segmants of this.
