Epic Sour Brainless on Peaches, Release No. 3

Epic Brewing Company has put out some amazing beers this year, and it’s just now the beginning of May.

In a post in March I introduced four of Epic’s 2017 limited releases: three from the Oak and Orchard series, and Sour Brainless on Peaches, Release No. 3. The Oak and Orchard beers have been released, and I am happy to say they are all wonderful sours! I was really impressed with the depth and complexity of flavors in each.

Within the next couple of weeks, Sour Brainless on Peaches, Release No. 3 will hit the shelves. You may have had one or both of the first batches, so how is this one different? Epic’s description of the beer is:

She smells like a peach, but packs a cruel, puckering punch! This is our most sour version of this beer yet, but it still retains beautiful notes of peach skin, citrus and a dose of barnyard funk.

I recently got the chance to do a vertical tasting of three different batches of this beer: No. 1 (2015), No. 2 (2016), and the soon to be released No. 3. (800 cases, 7.5% ABV).

It was interesting to taste the differences between each batch and how the flavors change as the beer ages. I felt that batch No. 3 came out perfectly: it has a bit of acidity like the first release and some tartness like the second. It’s as if they took the best qualities of the first two batches and combined them to make this one, awesome beer.

While I did get to try the beer, it was just a small pour, so I can’t wait to get a couple full bottles for myself! Be sure to keep an eye out; you won’t want to miss this batch of Sour Brainless on Peaches, which will be available in mid-May.
