The 45th AFI Life Achievement Award

Last year, for the second year in a row, Jennifer Lawrence was awarded a celebrity bank account’s highest, most-esteemed honor: the title of The World’s Highest Paid Actress. This year Jennifer’s bank account weeps bittersweet mascara tears like the runner-up in a pretty dollar beauty pageant, because JLaw’s Hollywood BFF Emma Stone is at the top of the list this time.

Forbes released the World’s Highest Paid Actresses for 2017, and 28-year-old Emma Stone got the number one spot with a reported 12-month earnings of $26 million (before tax). According to Forbes, Emma’s $26 million was based mostly on the money she made from La La Land (it pulled $445.3 million at the box office). Who knew being a Hollywood actress pretending to be an aspiring Hollywood actress could be so lucrative?

Last year’s number one, Jennifer Lawrence, reportedly made $46 million. This year she’s sitting at the number three spot with a measly $24 million (how sad). Forbes says most of her money came from upfront fees for Mother! and Red Sparrow, and that Dior contract. It’s too bad she doesn’t make money from her kooky relatable girl antics. If she could find a way to monetize barfing and farting, she’d be back up to that $46 million in no time.

Here’s the top ten:

1. Emma Stone – $26 million
2. Jennifer Aniston – $25.5 million
3. Jennifer Lawrence – $24 million
4. Melissa McCarthy – $18 million
5. Mila Kunis – $15.5 million
6. Emma Watson – $14 million
7. Charlize Theron – $14 million
8. Cate Blanchett – $12 million
9. Julia Roberts – $12 million
10. Amy Adams – $11.5 million

I think the most surprising part of this list is that Jennifer Aniston took the second spot, and with $25.5 million, no less! According to Forbes, Jennifer Aniston still makes good money from films, but she makes most of her money from endorsements, like Emirates airlines, Smartwater, and Aveeno. She also sold her hair care line, Living Proof, to Unilever back in December.

This list has two very important lessons in it. One, that the bottled water and drugstore facewash commercial game is no joke. Two, that appearing on a low-budget karaoke-style television show could one day turn you into a $26 millionaire.

Okay, there’s maybe three lessons here. I mean, it’s very obvious that if Hollywood wants more future millionaire actors and actresses, they need to go straight to the source. Forget American Idol, it’s time to reboot the VH1 corny talent contest.
